Xinhua District was ever a lively area during the Japanese-ruled period. Because of the heavy traffic between this area and Tainan City then, the economy was booming and lots of foreign-style houses, building and shopping street were built. When walking on Xinhua Historical Street, those foreign-style business houses of old times with accents of Baroque Architecture are easily distinguished from those modern Taiwan stores like 7-11 with a bright and tidy interior design. Those old houses, however, send people to walk through the time capsule where they’d somehow capture the prosperity and wealth back then.
