| Tainan Art Museum
Building 1 of the Tainan Art Museum is a mix of old and new architecture, originally the Tainan Police Station, completed in 1931 and designed by Tainan state technician Shojiro Mezawa. It's an Art Deco style building made primarily of reinforced concrete, with wings constructed of red brick. The facade is mainly decorated with thirteen-groove bricks, giving Building 1 its elegant style.
This building was designated as a Tainan City Monument in 1998, one of the few well-preserved police station buildings in the country. Building 1 features 10 exhibition rooms, a workshop, a light refreshment area, a collection storage room, and spaces for cultural relic restoration and inspection.
Building 2 was originally the Gong 11 Parking Lot; its main body is designed with Tainan's distinctive phoenix flower transformed into a pure pentagon shape, composed of vertically stacked and misaligned spaces. The semi-outdoor terrace is shaped into stair-like spaces for rest and activities. The large pentagonal fragmented shade roof is designed to mimic the effect of natural shade, creating beautiful shadows as sunlight penetrates the fragmented roof at different angles.
Building 2's exhibition space includes 16 exhibition rooms, a collection storage room, a cross-disciplinary performance hall, a children's art center, a creative workshop, a souvenir display area, a light refreshment area, a scenic restaurant, and a public parking garage in the basement open for public use.
